Wheat Grass or Wheatgrass?
In case you’re confused about the various ways to spell wheatgrass, here is some clarification. It just depends on who you ask. Dr. Ann Wigmore popularized wheatgrass juice in the 1970s. Since then, wheatgrass juice has become a favorite in juice bars, natural food stores, and the homes of do-it-yourself juicers worldwide. As told in The Wheatgrass Book, by Dr. Wigmore, wheatgrass juice has been associated with many health benefits. Others, such as Pines wheat grass use a different spelling.
Some might say that the spelling reflects the wheatgrass growing conditions. Wheatgrass is usually grown in trays. Wheat grass is grown outdoors in soil, not in trays. Whether grown in trays or not, wheatgrass can be grown indoors or out, in soil or without soil.
There are a variety of media on which wheatgrass may be grown. One medium is called a baby blanket by sprout growers. Soilless wheatgrass growers may use vermiculite, damp paper towels, plastic trays, dinner plates, etc. In addition, wheat can be sprouted and eaten before it grows into wheatgrass.
